Challenge – As part of my homebrew Godlings campaign, one of the house rules involved making Divine Challenges, with the characters asking to contest certain dice rolls and have the DM reroll for a second better outcome.
Divine Challenges
Players can in times of need “contest” certain random results that affect their characters. This represents the characters being champions in their world and favored by the divine/fate/fortune or even simple chance and luck. A second roll is made by the DM and that result is taken, regardless if the roll is better or worse than the player’s original roll.
In game terms, any player can contest a hit point roll when gaining hit points during a level increase.
Characters with close ties or allegiance to the gods can contest certain “holy” acts when preformed. Their faith allows them to pray for better results and sometimes be rewarded for their beliefs.
For most good characters this most directly manifests in contesting healing spells, although it can be done with other divine spells and powers.
A cleric or paladin can ask for this divine aid up to 1 time per cleric level per day. Others with less divine support can request this aid 1 time per 2 levels per day. This includes druids and other holy warriors.
