TAVERN–
Today’s entry is
a fantasy establishment known as The Healing Heart.
The Healing Heart is part bar, brothel, and chapel;
which offers its patrons food and liquid libations and other interesting substances,
gambling games of chance and luck, various pleasures of the flesh, and even spiritual
healing, enlightenment, and guidance; all for a fee, of course. It is run by a
chapter of the Sisters of Perpetual Fulfillment,
led by Mother Trixist. Clients can have a drink, rent a room by the hour or
night, honor their gods, and even purchase some company if they so desire. Whatever
comforts they seek or need, the Healing Heart is happy to supply it and here everyone
can find a good time, get some rest, healing, and pleasurable willing companions
to wile away some time, as long as they can afford to pay the bill.
The Healing Heart is recognized and acknowledged by everyone
as an off-limits safe haven and no violence of any kind is permitted within its
walls. Any violators of these guidelines
will find the sisters more than capable of dealing with those offenders breaking
their rules. Its grounds have worship rooms dedicated to most of the major
deities and even offers private chambers for those with the more esoteric denominations.
Despite what some folks in the city think about its more morally questionable
services, the establishment is overall seen as a valued pillar of the
community, paying its taxes and often offering charity, support, and aid to others
in times of real need.
Notable
NPCs
Madame Joan Trixist – Referred to by almost everyone
simply as Mother, she functions as head priestess, tavern manager, maître d, and
accommodating peddler of all pleasures of the flesh. She is a strong capable woman, who cares
deeply for her sisters and is enthusiastically empathetic to serving the needs
of her clients. Seen literally as the whore with a heart of gold, she can be
very warm and caring, but others have learned the hard way not to mistake her
kind nature for weakness. She protects
those under her charge with an iron fist, full of divine justice, power, and if
necessary, retribution.
Bubbles and Barda Virgos – Actual twin sisters, who
function as the Healing Heart’s bouncers and general muscle for whatever the
Sisters of Perpetual Fulfillment need. Barda
is the long-time reigning arm wrestling champion and Bubbles is rumored to have
visions, glimpses of the near future to come.
Holton Greenbock – Holton is an old scarred and wrinkled
elf who is the Heart’s head bartender and brewmaster. He oversees the waitstaff
and all food and beverages being offered to customers, including the creation
of various high-quality ales, wines, and liquors. The Healing Heart has been recognized by the
brewing community for several of his innovative concoctions, including Old God’s
Ale, Wrymbloode Wine, and a honey mead named the Fairyland Fizzer.
He is considered an honorary “Sister,” although he keeps to
himself and is quiet and reserved. Rumors abound about him being a retired adventurer,
master magician, escaped slave, eunuch, and wanted criminal. Part of his mysterious reputation includes an
ancient raven, Joshuah that lives with him behind the bar, less as a pet and
more as a trusted companion.
Song Skylathe – Sister Song is a very attractive skilled
bard, musician, and entertainer. She plays multiple instruments, writes music, is
a talented dancer, and an accomplished actress. Her name is ironic though, as
she has a horrible screeching singing voice. She often plays music, while several
of the other women at the Healing Heart sing and entertain the guests.
Finneas Olgawan – Although not employed by the
establishment, Finneas can often be seen hanging around at all hours of the
night and day. Finneas is a restless well-dressed
ghost who obviously refuses to pass on and his spirit has been haunting the area
since long before either the Healing Heart or the town itself was built. While sometimes startling to customers and
staff, he is usually considered harmless and only rarely interreacts with
anyone, even those who can speak with the dead or have any sort of power over
them.
