Journey–
For today, we go
on more of a metaphysical journey, less with a destination in mind and more
about reaching spiritual enlightenment. In my last campaign, one of my players
was a Way of the Astral Self Monk. He acquired
a mystical tome entitled, The Way: A Journey of Steps on the Path to
Enlightenment and made it to Chapter/Step 2 before the campaign ended, so that
is as far as I have created. For Journey, I am including Chapter 1 and then
for tomorrow’s Explore I will include chapter 2, which fits that theme also.
Book Title: The
Way: A Journey of Steps on the Path to Enlightenment
Monastic
Tradition: Way of Enlightenment
Monks who begin to follow the Way of Enlightenment dedicate
themselves to a spiritual journey that transcends the physical realm. These
monks seek to attain true enlightenment by traveling a mystical path known only
as "The Way." Through rigorous training, self-reflection, and the
mastery of mind and body, practitioners of this monastic tradition unlock the
hidden potential within themselves, gaining insights that border on the mystical
and divine.
Chapters
Chapter 1: The Call of the

Chapter 3: The Enchanted
Forest
Chapter 4: The Riddle of
the Sphinx
Chapter 5: The Temple of

Chapter 6: The Astral

Chapter 7: The Mirror of
Truth
Chapter 8: The Summit of Ascendance
The book appears to be a
set of monastic teachings, rituals, and mantras, all interwoven in between a
fictional tale of a young monk’s journey and adventures.
Chapter 1: The Call of
the Unknown (Level 3)
Story:
Training
Focus: Meditation, intuitive awareness, and initiation rituals.
Monks on the Way of Enlightenment begin their journey by
feeling a deep calling within themselves. They receive a sign, perhaps a vision
or a mysterious message, urging them to seek a path beyond the ordinary. This
step involves the monk leaving behind the familiar and embracing the
uncertainty of the unexplored.
Requires a level 3 or
greater Monk. To gain the benefits of Chapter 1 requires a DC 12 Insight and a
DC 12 Religion Check. If either check is failed, after a new level is gained,
reader can attempt the failed check again with advantage.
Benefits:
1.
The reader
begins to learn various contemplative meditation mantras and rituals.
2.
Gain
proficiency in the Religion skill. If already proficient in Religion, instead gain
proficiency in the Insight skill. If already proficient in those skills, choose
one of them and gain expertise with that skill.
3.
Reader can watch
and interpret their opponent’s intentions and actions, allowing them to roll
initiative with advantage at the start of the combat. This can be done 1 TLR
per proficiency bonus.
*For my
Grimdark campaign, a short rest took 3 hours and a long rest took a full 24
hours. The group had to plan carefully for when to safely take a long rest.
